Hampshire Master Tom Greenwood - New GB 100m Freestyle Record

Posted on 14 Aug 2010 at 00:01 by Pippa Anderson (Masters) (0 user comment)

Hart SC's Tom Greenwood (swimming in the 50-54 age group), achieved a new GB Record in his 100m Freestyle event at the X111 FINA World Masters Championships Gottenburg, Sweden at the beginning of August.

Tom’s time of 58:79 earned him a second Silver medal following the first for his 200m Free and a Bronze for his 50m Free.  Fellow competitor Andy Chamberlain said:

“I'm glad I had the privilege of watching Tom's brilliant 100m Freestyle.  Before the race we'd discussed his approach and true to his word Tom took the race out hard and at 50m turned first in a blistering time of 27.88. With 25m to go Tom was well clear of the main pack and holding his form powered to the finish in a time of 58.79 to claim the silver medal and a new British Masters long course record.  After all the hard training Tom has put in over the last 12 months it was a well deserved result.”
