County Teams 2011

The Hampshire team finished equal 10th in Division 1 of the County Teams competition at Ponds Forge. This reprsents an amazing achievement and is 2 places better than last year. Congratulations to the whole team and Emma the coach.

There was a succesful protest against the result of event 129. Although this reduced the overall number of points gained by Hampshire, it did not affect the final position.

The draft programme suggested that it would be difficult. Based on submitted times, the Hampshire team would accumulate 246 points, which would be good enough for 16th place and survival in Division 1.

However, the competition is being decided in the pool, not on paper.

Hampshire highlights:

Winners
Boys 12/13 100m Freestyle, Jamie Cunnigham (Rushmoor)
Boys 14/15 100m Freestyle, Miles Munro (Beau Sejour)

Second place
Girls 12/13 100m Breaststroke, Angharad Eburne (Rushmoor)
Boys 14/14 100m Butterfly, John Slater (Basingstoke)
Boys 14/15 100m Backstroke - Oliver Jermy, HVWS
Boys 14/15 4x50m Medley Relay, (Oliver Jermy, Gionanni Guarino, John Slater, Miles Munro)

Third place
Boys 14/15 100m Breaststroke, Giovanni Guarini (Tigers)

In the final event, the 6x50m mixed freestyle relay, Hampshire swam their boys first and generated a large lead. The girls held on well to win their heat and finish 4th overall, which was enough for 10th place and an improvement over 2010.

Emma, the coach, was diaspointed. She wanted 8th place and promised better next year.

Virtually everyone swam out of their skins. It was a privilege to watch as President
